Penta Investment has launched an architectural and urban design competition for a site along the south bank of the Danube in Bratislava.
The 8.5 ha site, which he acquired from HB Reavis in the first quarter of the year, is located between the Old Bratislava Bridge, the Apollo Bridge and the Harbor Bridge.
The competition is open to all, but three international architectural firms have been invited and will participate.
The main objective of the competition is to bring high quality architecture to the site, in the form of residential and commercial development, amenities and public spaces as well as greenery. The project must also meet the highest energy needs and have a positive impact on the environment.
I am convinced that the “Southbank Bratislava” project, which is characterized not only by its excellent location, but also by its scale, has the strong potential to become a full part and complement of the city center of Bratislava. At the same time, it should be an attractive and comfortable place to live, work and play. We consider the architectural competition as the most appropriate way to find the best and highest quality concept for this field. I believe that by combining the participation of international and national studios, a unique architectural solution will emerge.
Juraj Nevolník, National Managing Director of Penta Real Estate Slovakia
The competition is divided into two rounds. The first is an open pre-qualification round, from which three proposals, selected by an expert jury, will advance to the second round, where they will compete against the three invited architecture studios. They are Zaha Hadid Architects, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). In the second round, the jury will select the winner from these six proposals, which will be announced on February 28, 2023.
