Alaska Airlines is known for offering one of the best frequent flyer programs on the market, with extremely valuable miles and excellent reward flight partners. If you’re flying with the airline, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card might be well worth the moderate $75 annual fee.

We focus here on the rewards and benefits that come with each card. These cards aren’t worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay off your balance in full each month, make your payments on time, and only spend what you can afford.

What the Alaska Airlines Visa Credit Card offers you

In addition to the huge Welcome Bonus, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card earns you 3 unlimited miles per dollar spent on qualifying Alaska Airlines purchases, including tickets, flight subscriptions, food and beverages in-flight, lounge subscriptions, vacation packages and freight purchases. You will earn 1 mile for every dollar spent on all other purchases.

The Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card includes travel benefits such as one free checked bag ($30 value), 20% discount on inflight purchases and discount on Alaska Airlines Lounge Pass . Also, there are no foreign transaction fees, so you won’t be charged when using this card abroad.

Cardholders are also eligible to receive a free year of Grubhub+ membership (normally $9.99 per month). A trial subscription gets you free shipping (on orders over $12), exclusive offers, and access to matching gifts at checkout.

That said, the Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card isn’t suitable for day-to-day spending because you only earn one point per dollar on purchases outside of Alaska and you can only redeem miles for flights in Alaska or reward flights with partners. So if you’re looking for more flexible redemption options, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Credit Card isn’t the right card for you.

How to Redeem Your Alaska Miles

New cardholders earn 50,000 bonus miles plus Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare™ starting at $121 ($99 fare plus taxes and fees starting at $22) after making purchases of $2,000 or more within the first 90 days of opening your account with the Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card. With this bonus, you will be able to cover the cost of a round-trip ticket wherever Alaska Airlines flies. As Alaska Airlines is part of the Oneworld alliance, you will have access to over 1,000 destinations worldwide.

The best way to use your miles is to redeem them for award flights on partners (such as British Airways, America Airlines, Icelandair, Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines). But keep in mind that the flight reward chart in Alaska is based on distance (instead of being based on the cash price of a ticket), which means longer flights will cost more miles. .

You can also redeem miles for a 50% discount on ticket bookings (with limits).

It is essential that you remember to use your miles in a timely manner because Alaska miles expire after 24 months. So don’t wait too long before redeeming your bonus miles. And don’t wait too long to apply if you’re interested, because this offer doesn’t last for good.
